NSERC CREATE for Network Softwarization
The NSERC CREATE in Network Softwarization (NetSoft) is an industrial stream training program in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). Network softwarization revolutionizes how network and computing infrastructures are designed and operated to deliver services and applications with greater agility and cost effectiveness. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) enables fast innovation by making the network programmable, and it leads to greater responsiveness, security, efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Network Function Virtualization (NFV) replaces equipment, such as routers, load balancers, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and signaling systems, with software running on commodity hardware. The cost and complexity of operating the network is reduced dramatically by management software that operates on converged SDN and cloud infrastructure. Together SDN and NFV are driving a transformation of networks. The NetSoft training program is a partnership of academia and industry to meet the critical need to produce the HQP required to drive the coming wave of network innovation.
At Université Laval we are developing the physical layer enablers of software defined network and network virtualization. Working with our industrial sponsors we provide hands on internships in spatial multiplexing for optical communications with high order modulation. The following are NetSoft lectures on the physical layer drivers for softwarization.
