Our Facility

The laboratories of Profs. LaRochelle, Shi, and Rusch are located at the Pavilion for Optics and Photonics (POP) that hosts the Center for Optics and Lasers (COPL). COPL is UL-based research center and a Québec funded FRQNT strategic network established to support multi-disciplinary research. Built in 2006, the POP features 5,000 m² of class 100,000 clean-room laboratory space. The Optical Communications Laboratory, shared by Profs. LaRochelle, Shi and Rusch, includes 13 labs for a total of approximately 376 m².

The laboratories feature state-of-the-art equipment for optical communications technology that provides the physical backbone for global networking and is widely used in Internet service delivery globally (local, metropolitan and long-haul), within data centres and within cloud computing centres.
